Hello, I’m myrto

I would love the opportunity to help you in your wellbeing journey. Every person I meet is unique and I believe that there is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to therapy. This is what I love most about my job!

Here is some information about my qualifications and experience to help you decide:

I am a Counselling Psychologist specialising in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), third wave CBT therapies and EMDR. I qualified with a professional doctorate in 2009 in the UK.

I have over 20 years of experience working with adults experiencing a wide range of mental health difficulties. I work in English and in Greek and I am based in the UK.

Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with individuals experiencing mild to moderate difficulties, including anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), social anxiety, ADHD, health anxiety, sexual difficulties, work-related stress and performance issues, anger management, sleep problems, and relationship difficulties. I also have significant experience supporting people with more complex and severe mental health conditions, including personality disorders.

I have a particular specialist interest in psychological trauma, including complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD). I currently work as a complex-trauma team lead psychologist within the NHS, alongside my private practice.

I am trained in the following evidence-based therapies and I like to integrate them into my work based on my clients’ individual needs and goals:

I am registered with HCPC and a I am a BPS Chartered Counselling Psychologist.

My Approach

My therapeutic approach is collaborative yet structured. I work with clients not only to understand the origins of their difficulties but also to develop practical skills and strategies to help them cope more effectively and to improve their wellbeing in the ‘here and now’. My first aim is for you to feel safe to explore the challenges you are facing.

Therapy does not have to be onerous. We can work together to ensure we stay on track with your goals. I am personable, creative and can use humour, when appropriate, to help us through the challenging parts of the journey.

Here are some of the areas I cover in my work:

Formulation

Looking for patterns and themes in your life, how is everything linked together? How is the past linked to your present problem? Are there specific ‘triggers’ that make you react in a certain way? A formulation is usually the first step to understanding yourself.

awareness

What is your role in the problem you are facing? We can explore this together with compassion and understanding. What gets in the way of change? How would people around you respond if you changed?

New skills

What could you do differently today? Psychological skills can help you with emotional regulation, managing a specific problem or how to communicate better with others. We will explore ways to help you learn and practise between sessions, from guided AI tools in therapy, to imagery exercises and thought records.

Acceptance

Sometimes change is hard. Are there parts you need to learn to accept? Compassion for yourself and others can bring balance and inner peace.
